River Sushi, located at 144 Tyler Road N., is Red Wing's newest culinary option. Open starting at 11 a.m. Monday through Saturday, the restaurant combines Japanese fare and Chinese classics with a menu full of sushi varieties and Chinese dishes.

A family business through and through, River Sushi is run completely by owner and cook Yun Chen and his wife. Sometimes when the establishment is busy their young son, whom Chen affectionately calls his "little helper," will assist his parents in serving customers.

No stranger to the food scene, Chen said he spent many years in New York City learning the precise art of sushi. He proved his skills to the community through Sakura Japanese Sushi, the restaurant he ran near downtown Red Wing for eight years.

Chen said his new business is similar to Sakura in menu and offerings, but located in a space two times the previous size and in what he thinks is a better location.

So far, Chen said he has been happy with the popularity of the restaurant and is excited to continue sharing his culinary clout with the community.
