Nine youth wrestlers represented Hudson at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison to participate in front of a few thousand fans in an arena with 16 full-sized mats in the Wisconsin Wrestling Federation Kids Folkstyle State Wrestling Championships March 23-24.

The club had three wrestlers finish in the top six in their bracket to come home with a trophy.

Sixth-grader Liam Neitzel, a three-time state qualifier, beat the returning state champion in an exciting semifinals match before losing in the championship match. He went 3-1 on the weekend to earn a second place trophy.

Eighth-grader Ryan Rambo lost in the first round to the eventual state champion in his bracket and then started an impressive win streak to earn a spot in the third place match by beating last year's state champ. He finished 4-2 for the tournament and capped off his youth career with a fourth place finish. This was his fifth consecutive trip to the youth championship tournament.

Fifth-grader Evan DeLaForest lost in the final seconds of the quarterfinals and finished the season with a victory in the fifth place match. He capped off his weekend with a 4-2 record in his second trip to the state championship.

Two of Hudson's first-year wrestlers earned a pin at the tournament and performed well on the big stage. First-grader Bella Hoff lost in the consolation semifinals and finished the weekend with a 2-2 record and second-grader Wyatt Toenjes finished 1-2.

Two other Hudson athletes won a match but ultimately lost some close matches in the consolation rounds. Sixth-grader Dawson Clymer and eighth-grader Ben Draveling each finished with a 1-2 record. Draveling was a first time qualifier and Dawson was making his third trip to the championship meet.

Also representing Hudson were two-time state qualifier Kylie Simpson (5th grader), and four-time state qualifier Karsyn Michaelson (7th grader), who each went 0-2 on the day, but left with the goal of returning to state next season.
